In the book “They Say, I Say” I like how they included the academic moves and set phrases that the book advocates its readers to use. In my opinion it helps a writer to be more creative because it can help to get them going if they are finding it difficult to word a sentence in a specific way or if they have writers block. Some people may think it can stifle a writer’s creativity by making their writing boring and dull. On the contrary I think it helps to get a person’s writing started so that they can focus more on the main topic that they are writing about and not on how to start off their sentences. I also like how they say that it is okay to use “I” when writing because it helps students to express their opinions better. Over the years I have been criticized by my English teacher because I used the word I in my papers a lot. I understand that you can’t start every sentence off with I but it is nice to see that it isn’t a big deal if you use it in a paper to express your opinions. Overall I think it’s a very helpful book.
