Milgram Article

In my opinion Stanley Milgrams experiment was not unethical. I think that because it was a controlled experiment and the people were not in any danger that it was a perfectly ethical experiment. Even though it had negative effects on the people involved in the experiment including stress and other psychological effects. There were, however, now lasting and permanent effects found in the people that were being experimented on so I would not say that the experiment was unethical. Overall I found the experiment very interesting because it was an designed to explain why people can do pretty terrible things when they are ordered to do them by an authority figure like a government or social leader even when they know it is wrong and would probably not do it if they were given a choice instead of being ordered to do it. The experiment helps to explain the subconscious desire for people to follow the orders of authority figure instead of their own conscious. History has shown many examples of people doing terrible things because they were ordered by people in power. The experiment definitely helps to explain why events such as the Holocaust and others like it happened.

They Say, I Say Chapter 1

By using a source in the beginning of a paper a writer can use the source to help to elaborate on what he or she is writing about. They can also use it to explain what the topic is and what its about also they can explain why they are writing about it.  A more experienced writer can choose to use a source in the body of their main argument or at the end or the conclusion.  By using a source in the body paragraph or paragraphs you can use the source to help support the argument you are making you can also use a source to find other people who have the same or different views on the subject as you.  A writer can also use a source in the conclusion of their paper. You could use a source in your conclusion to give your paper a memorable ending using a quote or a short anecdote that will support your argument and makes your writing more memorable to the reader.  Sources can really help you to present your argument and support  it in your paper.

They Say, I Say Preface Discussion

In the book “They Say, I Say” I like how they included the academic moves and set phrases that the book advocates its readers to use.  In my opinion it helps a writer to be more creative because it can help to get them going if they are finding it difficult to word a sentence in a specific way or if they have writers block. Some people may think it can stifle a writer’s creativity by making their writing boring and dull.  On the contrary I think it helps to get a person’s writing started so that they can focus more on the main topic that they are writing about and not on how to start off their sentences.  I also like how they say that it is okay to use “I” when writing because it helps students to express their opinions better.  Over the years I have been criticized by my English teacher because I used the word I in my papers a lot. I understand that you can’t start every sentence off with I but it is nice to see that it isn’t a big deal if you use it in a paper to express your opinions. Overall I think it’s a very helpful book.
